5 Years of Munich Urban Colab

Since its opening, the Munich Urban Colab has developed as a model of successful cooperation between city government, academia, business, and the urban community.

Through the Munich Urban Colab, we have succeeded in creating and developing a space that is now recognized beyond Munich’s borders as a model of successful cooperation between city government, academia, business, and the urban community.

Since its opening in 2021, the Munich Urban Colab has offered spaces for networking, collaboration, and prototyping across five floors at its central location in Maxvorstadt.

Highlights of the exchange and community include the numerous events held at the Munich Urban Colab, which appeal to a broad spectrum of users and audiences—from startups, academia, and Munich residents to international conference participants and delegations.

International networking within Urban Hub Europe

In its search for sustainable solutions for the city of the future, Munich is also actively engaging with other “smart cities” in Europe. Through the Munich Urban Colab, Munich is part of the European network Urban Hub Europe (UHE), which promotes practical exchange among innovation hubs.

The partner centers from Norway, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Spain, and Germany host annual summits to further develop field-tested solutions and new technologies for urban areas.

This year’s summit will take place on August 25 in Copenhagen and will be hosted by the Danish ConTech Lab.

Meetings like this provide all participating partners with valuable insights for connecting sustainable approaches beyond their own national borders.
