About Monocle’s Quality of Life Survey

For the past 19 years, the ranking has evaluated cities based on factors such as safety, transportation, green spaces and general quality of life, using a 30-question survey answered by correspondents in 40 cities worldwide. For the 2026 edition, special emphasis has been placed on excitement, urban ambition, and security. In addition, the study incorporated supplementary data from property specialist Knight Frank and the EIT Copenhagenize Index 2025. The overarching goal is to assess cities holistically, moving beyond purely economic metrics.
