Start for a new cohort of care workers

International care workers from Turkey recently began their professional careers in Munich. The Care International programme already ran successfully in 2025.

Welcome to Munich

International care workers from Turkey recently began their professional careers in Munich. They were officially welcomed at a reception held by the Department of Labor and Economic Development, where they were prepared for their step-by-step qualification process to work as nursing professionals in disability care.

As in 2025, all participants this year are graduates of Atatürk University in Erzurum and are currently involved in the European Voluntary Service. Over the coming months, they will complete specialist modules, intensive language training and close support – with the clear goal of a planned transition to qualified employment in Munich.

Employment and Economic Affairs Officer Dr Christian Scharpf emphasised: ‘Working with disabled people requires not only the appropriate training, but also heart and passion.’

District Administration Officer Dr Hanna Sammüller also underlined the sustainable approach of the initiative to improve the staffing situation in disability care: ‘This year, together with the Department of Labour and Economic Affairs, we have once again succeeded in attracting dedicated nursing staff from Turkey. They are helping us to improve the staffing situation in disability care in the long term.’

The Care International project is part of the Personalsituation Behindertenhilfe (Personnel Situation Disability Assistance) association, coordinated and funded by the MBQ (Munich Employment and Qualification Programme), and stands for fair, sustainable and locally controlled recruitment of skilled workers. The home supervisory authority in the district administration department provides advisory support for the project.

The new cohort shows that this is a good example of how international cooperation, qualification and local commitment can shape the future together.
