Munich Business Climate Pact: Third Round Successfully Completed

At the closing event at Munich Urban Colab, Professor A. Levermann spoke, and a summary of the results from all participating companies was presented.

Motivating results

The Klimapakt Münchner Wirtschaft (Munich Business Climate Pact) brings together some of Munich’s largest companies and was established on the initiative of the Department of Labor and Economic Development. The third round of this successful initiative, which aims to help the city achieve climate neutrality by 2035, has now come to an end. Looking at the results, this round was completed successfully.

Together, the 16 participating companies reduced greenhouse gas emissions by close to 47,000 tons between 2023 and 2025, thereby achieving their goal of making a significant contribution to the city’s climate target.

In addition to a warm welcome from Dr. Christian Scharpf, the City of Munich's Head of Labor and Economic Development, the approximately 80 guests heard a presentation by renowned climate scientist Professor Dr. Anders Levermann from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

“The impact of the Climate Pact goes far beyond mere numbers. The Climate Pact is a network of experts who are effectively advancing climate protection within their companies. I would therefore like to thank all participating companies and cooperation partners for their great commitment.

Measures and collaboration

The motto of Climate Pact 3 was „binding. effective. visible”. During the 2023–2025 period, companies initiated 107 climate protection measures. These measures ranged from building a company-owned geothermal plant and optimizing machine fleets to installing PV modules, refurbishment programs, and green roof initiatives. The companies also demonstrated how collaboration could make their efforts more effective — both by jointly building knowledge and sharing best-practice examples in specialized workshops and knowledge-sharing formats, as well as through numerous joint initiatives.
